Samson: A Little Survivor with a Big Brother's Legacy

Wolfie and his big brother, Samson

Some kittens come into rescue with a story; Samson came with a journey.

When he first arrived at SGR, he wasn't even Samson. He and his much larger twin brother came into rescue together and because his brother was the bigger of the pair, he was given the name Samson. The smaller kitten was nicknamed "Wolf" after a large botfly larva that had to be surgically removed from his left temple shortly after intake.

For little Wolfie, that was only the beginning.

The wound left behind became the source of repeated abscesses that required multiple procedures, incision & drainage, medications, and countless treatments. Through every painful procedure, every uncomfortable irrigation treatment, and every round of antibiotics, Wolfie never lost his gentle spirit or his bravery. He accepted it all with quiet courage, patience, and a trust that melted the hearts of everyone caring for him.

Samson’s botfly wound

As if that wasn't enough, both brothers were soon struck by a devastating gastrointestinal infection caused by spirochete bacteria. The illness brought severe diarrhea, weakness, and lethargy, and despite everyone's best efforts, Wolfie's beloved big brother lost his fight on October 15 at only 5 weeks old.

In an instant, Wolfie was alone. The kitten who had never known life without his brother suddenly had to face the world by himself.

But love leaves a mark that never truly fades.

To honor the brother he adored, Wolfie took on his sibling's name. From that day forward, he became Samson, carrying a piece of his brother with him wherever he goes. It is a tribute to the bond they shared and a reminder that although his brother is gone, he will never be forgotten.

Today, Samson is thriving. He has overcome pain, illness, loss, and challenges that would have broken a much older soul. Yet somehow, he remains affectionate, trusting, and full of joy. His story is one of resilience, love, and the extraordinary strength that can exist inside a tiny kitten.

Samson isn't looking for someone to feel sorry for him, he's looking for someone to write the next chapter of his story. A chapter filled with bouncy toys, warm beds, gentle hands, and a family who will love him for the rest of his days.
